Review: Victor Schmud, Total Expert by Jim Benton

Victor Schmud: Total Expert is a fun, mildly bonkers series for young readers (ages 7-10) by Jim Benton, the guy who created the Franny K. Stein series. Victor plows through the world with an unfettered imagination, an unshakeable confidence, and a comes-and-goes hold on reality.

Victor causes trouble in school, battles aliens, and fends off zombies, all with his silent duck companion, who Victor insists is a chicken.

It’s fun, well-told lunacy accompanied by great cartoons.

So far, Victor Schmud has two books: Let’s Do a Thing! (aliens) and Night of the Living Things (zombies).

Recommendation: If you have a kid, buy them. The art and story will reward multiple readings.
